SNP MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan, has congratulated all those who have travelled from the Western Isles to Oban this week to take part in this year’s Royal National Mòd.

Local Western Isles successes have been plentiful already, including a win for Ceòl a’ Chaisteil from Barra in the under 13s Cogadh nan Còmhlan (Battle of the Bands) competition, Sgoil an Iochdair in the under 13s drama, Sgoil Sir E Scott in the age 13-18 choir competitions, and a huge array of first, second and third places for soloists in the junior learner, fluent and instrumental competitions.

Commenting, Alasdair Allan said:

“I would like to congratulate all those from the Western Isles who have taken part in the mòd so far, whether as competitors, supporters or those who are simply attending to soak up the fantastic atmosphere. A particular well done is in order for the many young people who have once again done the Western Isles proud in the results of their competitions over the last few days.

“The national mòd represents a fantastic opportunity for Gaels across Scotland and further afield to gather together each year, speaking our language to one another and celebrating our unique culture and heritage.

“A huge congratulations is due to An Comunn Gàidhealach and to the local mòd committee who have made this event such a success already. Best of luck to all those competing the rest of this week, whether as soloists, dramatists, writers, instrumentalists or choristers. I hope we’ll see even more silverware making its way across the Minch!”
