Speaking following a rally in Stornoway, Alasdair Allan, SNP Candidate for Na h-Eileanan an Iar in the 2026 Holyrood election has reiterated his support for the recognigtion of a Palestinain state and an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
SNP leader and current First Minister, John Swinney has recently condemned the Israeli Government’s actions in the region as a genocide. Meanwhile in London, SNP Group Leader, Stephen Flynn has also called on Keir Starmer to recall Westminster early to vote on recognising a Palestinian state.
Allan commented:
“The horrific scenes coming out of Gaza need to stop and they need to stop now. Today was an opportunity for me and many other islanders to stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza and, in our own small way, to demand peace.
“I was proud to vote in Holyrood for the Scottish Government’s call for a two-state solution, an immediate ceasefire and release of all hostages. That position has not changed.
“Sadly, Holyrood is unable to legislate on international affairs. That power remains at Westminster where Keir Starmer appears to be using Palestinian statehood as a bargaining chip.
“I am glad that so many people in the islands continue to do all they can to speak up for the people of Gaza.”
