SNP MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan, has spoken out against potential swimming pool closures in Lionel and Shawbost in Lewis, with SNP councillors working to find a possible solution to save the facilities.
Allan commented:
“Our swimming pools are an important local facility that keep people fit, teach young islanders how to swim and train future athletes for competitive swimming. So, I share local concerns about the threat which has been raised within the Comhairle of these two pools closing.
"I know the SNP Group on the Comhairle are keen to find a possible solution to save the pools.
"It's clear this is not an isolated incident. Well over 400 pools have closed in England and Wales since 2010, so the issue raises as many questions about ongoing austerity from the UK Government as it does about local priorities.
"I am very happy to meet with anyone in the community with concerns about the present situation and have raised the issue as local MSP directly with the Comhairle as I believe a solution needs to be found soon "
